Issues
I love the Paradise Valley Unified School District and am fortunate to be a parent in PVUSD. I am an active, involved parent and I have been an effective, informed, and trusted Governing Board Member. It would be my honor to continue to serve you in this capacity.
Focus on EVERY Learner
Every student is at a different point in their learning career, and our job is to ensure that each receives high quality instruction, interventions when appropriate, and an opportunity to learn, flourish, and thrive in our district. Students CAN succeed, and we can help them find their path. Focusing on EVERY learner means that providing just a base level of instruction is not enough. We need to look at each student and offer what each of them needs to be successful. Our Paradise Unified School District teachers are amazing professionals who are committed to meeting the needs of their students, and pushing them to do their best work. Looking at each student as an individual allows every student to find success on their education journey.
Support Students and Educators Through Collaboration
Students win when we are all on the same page. The role of the Governing Board is to bring an understanding of how to maximize and leverage resources to allow our teachers to do what they do best and what they love to do - teach. Using District resources to ensure that every student is ready to learn, and providing a supportive environment for students, leaves room for teaching and learning in the classroom. We need to continue to support our teachers and students by allowing our teachers the time and space to teach our students to think critically throughout their education. This in turn allows the students to feel empowered and confident, ready for whatever their next steps may be.
Effective (and Positive) Communication With All Stakeholders
Working with all stakeholders (families, teachers, staff, community members) is important to the success of the district. Some families and community members have the time and ability to be active in our District and at our schools and it is wonderful having their feedback. It is our job to continue to reach out to underrepresented stakeholders to ensure that we hear from everyone. Sometimes this is through surveys, committees or focus groups. No matter the tool, we need to reach out in ways that will ensure the greatest feedback, and the resulting information should be used and shared back out so that people understand the value of their participation in the District.
It is always important that discourse among stakeholders remains professional and constructive. We serve as examples to our students, and positive communication among dissenting ideas is critical to the mission of the District.

Keep the District Strong
A strong, functioning relationship between the Governing Board and its educators, administrators, parents, community, and students is essential to retaining highly qualified educators in the Paradise Valley Unified School District. The Board should work with all stakeholder groups to ensure that concerns are heard and needs are met. Ultimately, the role of the Board is not to micromanage the District, but to set priorities, hire the right people, and help create a climate to make it possible to meet the District's goals. I have a history of working effectively and collaboratively with different groups and these important skills will continue to be useful in my second term as a Governing Board Member.
